New sails make a powerful clamour. You do not have to have been standing on the quayside at the start of the 33rd America’s Cup Sail Race 2010 to hear the noise of the rattling sails; the sound was conveyed across television networks across the globe. Just before the start of the race there is great excitement as the air is filled with the rattling of new sails as the skippers battle to stay on the right side of the starting line by losing wind. New sails can be an expensive business and it is always best to preserve your existing sails. Tears can exacerbate very easily in windy conditions and being observant can prevent the necessity of buying a new sail. Sails can be repaired, and as wonderful as sail tape can be in an emergency it is not as permanent as stitching. Stitching a sail will give you more money in the sailing kitty in the long run.
As Kemp Sails agents we offer a sail laundry service as well as having staff that are trained sail makers and can advise on new sails.
